Add this to my 'book': cron is your friend. Anacron is a better friend on a desktop linux system.
And I suspect that nightly suspends will NOT trigger anacron. Though probably some time after coming out of suspension for that day anacron might run again. I will have to check this out on Saturday night (I suspend this system every friday afternoon).
OK. There is more than one way to do things in Linux. You will find a way to get this to work.
