It sounds like you have a non-standard driver that is not compatible with the latest kernel.
Hmm, using nvidia video driver from ELRepo and I don't remember anything else. I tried without the nvidia driver, but same problem.
Can you post more details about the machine, say info from a working kernel? Things like configuration, drivers, etc.
