BOOTPROTO doesn't even need to be in your ifcfg-interface file if you are not going to use one. You will need to add IPADDR=Ipaddress in there if you are not going to use a boot protocol, as well as NETMASK if it is different from the default for its range. Some others that you might consider is GATEWAY-gateway, and BROADCAST-bcast address.
