Never heard of a hand puncher. All I ever used or saw were desk-sized machines.
The machines could be programmed by punching the programme onto another same-sized punch card which fitted around a small circular drum. Girls punched and verified my coding sheets and managed to insert more errors into my coding that I had written. Never understood how they managed to verify their own punching errors.
