Alain, you dont need /home to be sitting on a seperate partition.
If you plan on accessing this machine remotely (ssh et al), you should have at least 1 user. Remote login as root is really not recomended.
You also might want to create local users in the future for a number of reasons.
You do realise that a /home will be created under / if there is no seperate partition for /home dont you ?
