Yes ... the reason is ... that is the kernel for centos-4.4 that is going to be released in a couple days with the 3.4.6-3 gcc.
Aha. I had assumed they corresponded to the CESA-2006:0575 security update announced on 8/23 (which I had also mistaken for 4.4 kernels). Thanks for clarifying.
