Totally, 100%, unabashedly AGREED.
Tomcat 5.5 support is in OpenNMS HEAD or should be really soon, I am testing on Centos 4.1 with java 5 and HEAD and loving the performance improvement.
If using jpackage I always need to install xerces-j2.
