The workaround seems to be to remove "rhgb" and "quiet" from the kernel line in the GRUB config (you may need to edit the command line from the grub menu before booting).
<snip> Haven't been following this, but if this is a server, rather than a workstation, there is *zero* reason to have rhgb and quiet on a server. I take it off ours. If I'm standing there during boot, I always want to see what's happening.
