My updates to x86_64 machines worked fine, but the i386 update gives me the "package does not match intended download" error on device-mapper and net-snmp-libs as well.

Yes, the i386 updates are broken. Here's what works around the problem for me:

--exclude={net-snmp,net-snmp-devel,net-snmp-libs,device-mapper,device-mapper-event,lvm2}
