I've heard that before... yet I, personally, know of both postgresql and mysql in serious production use. For example, one company that not only does managed security services but is a root CA, with a *lot* of data, uses mysql.
Both postgresql and mysql are "production ready", but spacewalk does not support them. spacewalk requires Oracle DB. https://fedorahosted.org/spacewalk/wiki/PathToPostgreSql
