kde's wrapper has always worked fine for me. never had a problem, till i
used external repo's to update centos kde stuff.

There was a fair amount of discussion during the early days of Centos 4.1
concerning various problems with the KDE screen savers. The Gnome
screen saver seem to work ok. The problem had something to do with
the way the kde one was working with
xorg.
The problems varied, but usually it had to do with the savers testing ok,
but when activated, the screen would only go blank and the screen saver
would never start up.
The solution was to bypass kde and use xscreensaver directly.
Maybe the video card, mother board bios (ACPI), and monitor combination
you are using work with kde screensaver without any problems, but the
rest of us with different hardware seem to be affected by it.
The version of the kde screensaver that I have is the official Centos 4.1 one.
