i cant see any php4 on centos4 repo. im using apt-get

There is no php5 in extras.
Right ... there is a php5 in the CentOS Plus repo. If you want part of the CentOS Plus repo and not other parts, you should use the:
"includepkgs="
or
"exclude="
options of yum in the CentOS-Base.repo file for the CentOS Plus repo.
