Maybe you have me confused with someone else.
I did not write or imply that nVIDIA cards never work. Rather, I wrote that they may not work. By this, I meant that they do not work with some monitors.
I checked what I wrote, and I believe the above paragraph is correct. If you disagree with me and stand by your statement, please refer me to the sentence(s) that I wrote that back you up.
In addition to me, two people have written to the group recently about the nVIDIA problem. They can vouch for the fact that there is sometimes a problem.
I agree that nVIDIA cards work for many people (including for me, which I also wrote). But the fact that they work for many people does not solve the problem when one does not work with a specific monitor.
This topic is near and dear to my heart, as I first encountered the problem when I was trying to install CentOS on machine with an nVIDIA card and using a monitor with which nVIDIA cards do not work (my Mag DX1495). At the beginning, I did not know that the card was the problem, I only knew that the screen went blank toward the end of the install. In addition to trying to solve the problem by tweeking the XF86Config file (boy, was that futile!), it literally took me hours of parts swapping, distribution swapping, and OS swapping (trying Windows too), to finally figure out that the nVIDIA card was the problem. (Some might say that the card/monitor combination was the problem, but Windows has no problem with the combination.)
Maybe my frustration with nVIDIA cards shows, and as a result, my emails on this topic are easily misinterpreted.

more
Rick,
Because the nVIDIA does not work for you doesn't
mean it does not
work..
I have been using the nVIDIA driver since i
installed pre 3.1(the
beta's) and have not had any issues...so please....
do not state that
is does not work...it does. You may have problems on
your side...but you
can't generalise and say that it does not work.
Take a poll and see
how many people have it working.
