I like to use php function scandir(), but I have PHP 4.3.9. How do I update php to ver. 5 so I can use scandir().

PHP 5 is available in centosplus. You can enable that repo in your yum configuration, however be careful as there are lots of other things (like unsupported kernels) that are also in that repository. It is a good time to use includepkgs in your yum configuration.
