We're setting up a blog account for each student and mentor on
seven.centos.org, a Wordpress instance. You'll soon receive new
account information, probably via Jim Perrin.
As this is our first year in GSoC, we didn't have some of the pieces
in place we might have wanted, such as a centralized communication
website and habit of blogging a lot. :) In talking with project lead
KB, we determined it would be more straightforward at this time to
have everyone use the same blog instance. We'll get better search
engine ranking[1] and an ability to work together easily in one
content system.
For any blogging you've been doing already, maybe you can do several
summary posts on seven.centos.org and point to the other write ups.
(We don't want to just republish the same content as it hurts SEO.)
Maybe we can quickly determine here the basic features of a blog post
you would write -- categories and tags to use, for example.
As this is mid-term, now is a great time to do a summary of status so
far for the wider community.
- From now on it will be easier for mentors and administrators to see
what is being blogged about, who is communicating outward, and so
forth, by looking at the single blog tool.
I appreciate your cooperation in making this part work. Being new,
much of our process is a bit experimental (welcome to an open source
project!), for future years we can make adjustments as necessary. Your
experience and feedback really help current and future students and
mentors.
Kind regards,
- - Karsten
[1] Or, rather, we want to avoid getting marked down for duplicating
content, such as from an origin blog to a planet aggregator. The
single blog instance should get better page ranking.
