5.2 Release going to mirrors

All, We are releasing 5.2 to the mirrors via msync.centos.org and msync-dvd.centos.org. Initially (for the first 24-48 hours) the permissions on the 5.2 directory will be 770 ... which should put it on your mirror but NOT show it via your web server. We will change the permissions (flip the bit :D) on the 5.2 directory to 775 after we get a significant amount of external mirrors that show as synced. We are doing this to minimize bad updates (and/or downloads) until the mirrors are fully synced. If any of you have extra bandwidth and want to seed the Bittorrents, that would also be appreciated as well, the torrent files are in the isos directories. Thanks, Johnny Hughes

Missing headers in 5.0, odd link structure

I guess I never paid all that much attention to it before just now, but has the CentOS 5 tree always been missing the HEADER.html and HEADER.images links? It's not pretty any more :( Also, why are the directories inside /5 individually linked to their current version, instead of directly linking /5 to /5.2 as was done with the 4 series? Hi people I'm try to respin Centos 5.2 with other packages but the official repos have some incosistency with the official medias This files are included in the oficial Medias however not at Centos repositories: cdparanoia-libs-alpha9.8-27.2.i386.rpm cdparanoia-alpha9.8-27.2.i386.rpm This files are required by nautilus-sendto packages. I think anybody forgot this files at the official repos Cheers

Changes for Harvey Mudd College Mirror

I've moved the HMC mirror from the rather old and limited machine in my office to a dedicated mirror server in our machine room. The new address is http://mirror.hmc.edu/centos/. The canonical name of the machine is worblehat.math.hmc.edu. Its IP address is 134.173.34.196. We are currently mirroring from msync.centos.org twice a day. Outgoing bandwidth should be pretty good, and we are also on Internet 2. Please update whatever needs to be updated for mirror.hmc.edu and please remove yum.math.hmc.edu from the mirror list. Thanks! Syncing 5.2

I have made available rsync://mirror.chpc.utah.edu/CentOS-hidden for anyone who wants it. This target runs as my mirror user, so you won't have to wait for the bit flip. Be aware that this target also *includes* the DVD images. I am still syncing 5.2, but it may be of use to someone. Could I please have access to msync-dvd.centos.org::CentOS-incdvd from 130.226.184.9 ? I've already downloaded the DVD's from elsewhere, including the new 5.2 x86_64. And please change "Direct DVD Downloads" to YES on the mirror list. I serve DVD isos only via FTP, HTTP access gets a redirect. x86_64 tree and ISOs must be redone

All, The x86_64 tree and ISOs have to be respun as we have a problem with more i[3,4,5,6]86 files in there than belong. We are working hard to fix this, and we will not remove the ISOs from the mirrors but will sync the new ones over them. I have removed the .torrent files and the sha1sum/md5sum files for x86_64 isos and have unauthorized the x86_64 ISOs on the torrent server. I have also flipped the READ bit off again on the 5.2 tree (chmod 770 instead of 775). We will fix this and get the new ones out asap. Also ... as always ... PLEASE don't install till we announce the release :D Thanks, Johnny Hughes

You might need to send your IP to hostmasters so they can add you on ACL's. There might be someone on this list that can help you on that. Primus AU Public CentOS Mirror

Hi All I've setup a Public CentOS Mirror in the Primus Telecom Datacentre in Melbourne, Australia. It is operating on a Dell PowerEdge 2900 with 3TB disk Space, and has Multi-Gigabit Ethernet connectivity. A cron job is Rsyncing the data every 2 hours and it appears to be working very well. The Server runs CentOS 5.1 as do most of our Linux based servers, and will eventually run a few different mirrors. The IP Address is 210.50.4.36 and I've created the DNS Names mirror.primusdatacentre.com.au and mirror.ipgn.com.au to point to it. The path from the web root is /centos If you're happy with the setup, please add it to the public mirror lists, we are more than happy to donate our bandwidth to the CentOS Users Community as very happy CentOS users ourselves. RFC on public centos mirrors

Hi, There is now close to 200 public CentOS mirrors listed at http://mirror-status.centos.org/. Only a handfull of them is late/down at any given time so I would like to thank you all for your support and efforts on behalf of the CentOS team and the silent users. Here is the current situation and some proposition to further improve it. - centos.org servers are donated to the project. We don't control the disk size not the bandwith available on these servers. - regular centos mirroring is fine - recent requests for extending the mirror with the dvd isos have been delayed due to limitations on centos.org side(bandwith/resources). - limited number of rsync servers allowed to reach the centos + dvd iso (ACL on the centos.org servers) - msync.centos.org are round-robin (eu/us) and need time to sync together from a "master" server. - no ACL on the regular centos tree (~110 GB for all versions/all arches) <6G 2.1 31G 3.9 47G 4.6 28G 5.1 - the separation between Tier1/2/3 has not been written down (except for bandwith availability). Requirements for CentOS public mirror: - request for no bandwith limitation (if you need to throttle, we can just remove your mirror from the mirrorlist generation and leave it on the main list). - round-robin for CentOS clients (http/ftp) via geo-ip from http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=$releasever&arch=$basearch&repo= RFC for possible future direction: rational: several public servers have more bandwith than the centos.org machines, by serving more files from the big pipes, we reduce the bottleneck for everyone. - dvd mirror (Tier 1) are the only one allowed to reach the master dvd repository - other public dvd mirror are re-directed to the dvd Tier 1 - leave it like that (no additional public dvd serveri: not satisfying...) jidgo: feedback from debian mirror maintainer - rational: reduce the bandwith/time needed for the initial sync for each point release * drawback: the burden to generate the so goes to the public mirror willing to use jidgo * drawback: another target needed (hardlinked) for mirror who don't want/can't use jidgo * jidgo receipe needed for each iso (how easy/hard is it to work with?) - doing it the otherway round? iso -> os/$arch tree Best regards, Tru PS: 5.2 is in QA now -- Tru Huynh (mirrors, CentOS-3 i386/x86_64 Package Maintenance) http://pgp.mit.edu:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xBEFA581B
