DVD sync

We've been syncing mirror.steadfast.net from msync.centos.org and pulling the DVDs from a slow alternate resource for a while. I was wondering if you I could get the details to sync the DVDs from the master mirror and allow 208.100.4.53 in. I emailed this privately, but never got any response. Looking to setup a mirror but had a few questions..

Just a couple of questions before I get started today... Space recommendations? How much space should I allocate? What to grab? Should I grab the entire tree from all the way to version 2 etc... ? Traffic Usage? When I make this a public mirror how much traffic should I expect for this host? I want to make sure I allocate correctly to avoid going over and getting charged. Problems with max clients being reached

I have been trying to sync our mirror from msync.centos.org and consistently receive max connections errors. Since this seems to be the case for days on end, my mirror never gets a chance to sync. Is there a way to find out when there are times of low connections so I can choose a time that will allow me to connect? I know that if someone tells me a particular time, a whole bunch of other mirror admins will probably jump on that same time, which would be pointless. So, it would be nice to be able to see a graph with the number of connections over time to make an informed decision when this happens. How long does centos repository keep its old rpm's?

General question here for a total newbie here, but how far back does the centos repository keep its RPM's? For example, if a new version of cups-devel comes out, what happens to the previous version of the cups-devel RPM? Does it remain in the repository? Does it get overwritten? What if we have to revert back to the older version of the RPM? Thank you.... J

Standford mirror not syncing?

Greetings, I have been using the Standford mirror for rsyncing CentOS 4.5 i386 updates as well as CentOS 5.0 i386 and x86_64 updates... but I haven't seen the most recent updates announced on Oct 6th show up yet... so I'm guessing the Standford mirror isn't syncing for some reason. i am always getting connection rejected (error max connections (40) reached) for the last 3 days or so when i try to rsync from us-msync.centos.org. i am a tier 2 mirror. i noticed that the mirror status page is showing 94 of 186 as current (meaning the rest 92 are not) - maybe because of the same problem? -- sriram ps: i tried syncing from mirrors.kernel.org and it went through, so now we are showing 95 of 186 as current ...

can you create problems with uid/gid?

I noticed that /CentOS/5/os was giving me a 403 forbidden error, but /CentOS/5.0/os/ wasn't. I tracked the problem; the files in /5/ are symlinks to the files in /5.0/, but they were owned by uid 503 and the targets in /5.0/ were owned by uid 500. My server is set SymLinksIfOwnerMatch, and if possible, I'd like to keep it that way. Question about disappearing updates in mirror directories

Greetings, orc_orc from the #centos IRC channel suggested I ask here... the most appropriate place for my question. I do not run a full mirror of CentOS but I do rsync from one or more of the official CentOS mirror sites via rsync. Lately I've been using the Standford rsync site to pull the updates dirs for i386 CentOS 4.5 and CentOS 5.0. I just use a simple rsync statement to pull the update directories only so it is fairly straight forward and light weight (not a lot of directories to parse). So here it is: rsync -avSH --progress --bwlimit=500 --delete \ rsync://mirror.stanford.edu/mirrors/centos/4.5/updates/i386/RPMS/ \ /my/centos45/destination/directory rsync -avSH --progress --bwlimit=500 --delete \ rsync://mirror.stanford.edu/mirrors/centos/5.0/updates/i386/RPMS/ \ /my/centos50/destination/directory I periodically run those commands by hand so I can see when updates have become available... and I like the --delete so it gets rid of removed packages and saves me disk space. NOW TO THE PROBLEM: After running those each day for the past week or so... I've noticed that the latest kernel and mysql updates (and a few others) keep appearing (downloading), and disappearing (getting deleted)... so it seems that some mirror is outdated and is being pulled from... affecting the other mirrors... or at least the Standford one I've been using lately.
