New CentOS mirror in France

Hi, We have setup a CentOS mirror. We use a dedicated server with raid 10 and we have 1 Gbp of available bandwidth (multi operator). Synchronization is initiated every 3 hours with a lock file. We use "eu-msync.centos.org" for sync. The server is located from "France" in a city named "Bordeaux". Mirrors services are available by : - http : http://mir01.syntis.net/CentOS/ - ftp : ftp://mir01.syntis.net/CentOS/ - rsync : mir01.syntis.net::CentOS The mail contact of administrator is : mir_team(a)syntis.net. mirrormanager: Database conversion

Hi, while I am still struggling with that host (well, small technicialities, nothing major), I'd like to start a discussion on how to convert our mirror table to the layout which is needed for mirrormanager. You can find a description of the table at http://oerks.de/~ralph/mirrordb.txt - that probably is easier to look at than trying to get out a version via mail which doesn't break for everyone :) Let me explain that table (and let me explain the fields we probably still need and which we don't need anymore, afaics). Name: Is our primary key - so every mirror has to have a unique name in our DB location-major: That's the continent locmajidx: numerical representation of the continent location-minor: Country (or in the case of US and Canada: State) http,ftp,rsync: The URLs the mirror is at speed: Used for the representation on the mirrorlist at www.centos.org. Mostly T1 anyway, not needed anymore, I guess. bandwidth: Actual bandwidth. Not needed. status: set by mirror-status (at least Dead, Disabled is for manual intervention) state: more detailed state contact-name: Name of the person running the mirror. Internal use for us. contact-tel: I cannot remember calling a mirroradmin :) contact-email: Our second unique field. I guess that will be used for login comments: Free form, normally the request mail sent to the list. Nice to have, but not needed. access*: Not used Type: We only have direct mirrors. restructured: That must have happened before 2006 :) centostext: What to add to the mirror URLs (so mostly unused) url: The URL to the sponsor's website info_note, notes_private,infoblock,graphic_url: Not used. centos*: Which versions does the mirror carry? arch_all: Yes, if not, then: arches: Free form - only used for the mirror list on www dvd-iso: Does it carry them (always yes since 6) dvd*: The versions (6 is set to yes always) dvd-iso-host,rsync-dvd-host: No idea. But: What I don't see on the Fedora pages is a list of all the mirrors (by country/continent/whatever) - I know that this is one thing we actually do need and want. Hi, This is a somewhat minor question, borne more of a curiosity. I noticed that my mirror, https://centos.alteeve.com, doesn't show up on the (Canadian) mirror list. In fact, none from Ontario, Canada are. Any idea why? Hi: Please verify proper functioning and re-activate the centos.eecs.wsu.edu mirror. We should be serving up http, ftp, and rsync, and realistically can serve around 300Mbps, although there are presently no limits placed on it (other than the gigabit feed). --Jim

6.1 tree to the msync and msync-dvd server

I am going to release the 6.1 tree to the msync machines (eu-msync.centos.org, us-msync.centos.org, msync.centos.org) as well as msync-dvd.centos.org Both the msync machines and the msync-dvd machines have geoip capability, so they will pick a machine that is on or close to your continent for syncing. The targets are "rsync <your_options> msync.centos.org::CentOS/" (or eu-msync, us-msync if you prefer ... though the system should give you the correct one with just msync as well) ... OR ... "rsync <your_options> msync-dvd.centos.org::CentOS-incdvd/". The msync-dvd machines will require that your mirror has been added to the list to be authorized. I will monitor the centos-mirrors list and try to add anyone who is not on there that wants to be ... BUT, for 6.1, there is no difference in the trees. The msync tree and the msync-dvd trees both have the DVDs in the tree. Initially, while we get the tree pushed, I am going to have the permissions on the 6.1 directory set to 700 ... this is to prevent access on our mirrors while we get some external machines synced. I will, after we get several dozen external mirrors synced, flip the permissions to 755 and a subsequent rsync by you will also change your permissions. Obviously, you control your external servers and you can offer the tree early after you get it in place ... but remember that our mirror list generator will show your trees as active as it finds them, so you may get significant traffic if you open your tree early (before other machines get online). 6.1 sync

It seems to that some internal mirrors have 6.1 and some mirrors dont have 6.1. After finally receiving the full 6.1dir, a second sync was done by the server and this deleted the release from the server. Unfortunately I dont know which server has the 6.1 dir available. Hi all: I know CentOS runs a web site that checks the mirror age. I'm curious as to how it checks that so that I can check myself locally and verify the age of any upstream mirror I'm pulling from. How can I check the age of my mirror locally without depending on the crawler? Thanks! --Jim
