Hey Everyone, Just thought I'd share a graph I made up which shows the relative size on disk of what kernel.org has. http://userweb.kernel.org/~warthog9/wall-o-shame/mirrors.all.oct.1.2010.pre… I'm going to try and update it every so often (new graphs will be in that wall-o-shame directory). Just figured it's some interesting data, and I must say I'm actually quite impressed with CentOS' judicious use of disk space. Netriplex Mirror IP Update

Starting Monday, the IP for the Netriplex CentOS mirror will be changing (New hardware). The existing machine and IP will remain up for a few weeks to ensure everything goes smoothly. The DNS entry (centos.mirror.netriplex.com) will stay, and point to the new IP as soon as DNS updates on Monday. The new IP for the mirror is: 66.219.25.35 and rsyncs will be pulling from 66.219.25.34. Uplink stays the same at 1gig, as does http/ftp/rsync access, and DVDs (pulled 6x/day from kernel.org) -- Douglas A. Rsync mirror 209.40.98.35 not responding

I usually sync with mirror from the rsync server 209.40.98.35, but from september 30th I was unable to sync from that server. Rsync shows this error: rsync: failed to connect to msync.centos.org: Connection timed out (110) rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(107) [receiver=2.6.8] Also ping is not responding: ping 209.40.98.35 PING 209.40.98.35 (209.40.98.35) 56(84) bytes of data. --- 209.40.98.35 ping statistics --- 367 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 366078ms Does any reported problem with that rsync server ? Hello, While I believe that the centos-mirror mailing list offers extremely valuable support to people running public mirrors, for those of us that run private mirrors, it seems that many of the discussions are less-than-relevant. It would be useful if we could get some announcement-only information (new release updates, expiration of old versions from anywhere but vault, and such) posted to a different mailing list, so that we can cut through some of the noise and just get information relevant to announcement and mirror updates. I noticed there is a centos-mirror-announce list that seems to serve this purpose, but there have been no posts on it since February. Is there any way to have just announcement-related messages use the centos-mirror-announce list, or is there a different list that should be used? Thanks, --adam

Yeah, the i386 is correct, for x86_64 I see correct numbers for the actual isos (8 hosts each), for the DVD I see 3 hosts and for the directory I also only see three hosts, which isn't correct indeed. The number of DVD hosts isn't correct either for x86_64 (and i386). Thanks for notification, I'm not sure yet what that is. One problem is that the data sometimes really is off, so machines in the UK are flagged as being in the US or Canada and things like that. Second: It doesn't help in cases when you'd like all the machines in your DC to hit the mirror which also is in that DC. If you aren't the admin of all of those machines, using the same AS or /16 would be great. The granularity of that isn't fine enough at times (see above or other examples in this thread). Monday, October 18th, 20:00 UTC. And keep in mind please that that means to move a *large* installed set of machines over to a different mirror system. And that system is run by a crowd which doesn't really like changes in their eco system. So the more people can chime in with their knowledge ... One thing I know is that we won't begin restructuring *before* 6 is out. Terrible .edu mirror performance

Anyone else seeing dismal speeds from multiple .edu mirrors? Over the past few days? Several .edu mirrors over the past week have been running at 3kB/sec - 50kB/sec forcing me to have to clean my yum cache just to get through the update process. Latest .edu offender at 3kB/sec is mirror.vcu.edu. Even yum thinks it's a fast mirror for some reason. I know it's great that schools are pitching in, but c-mon we need some kind of performance monitor for the Tier1 mirrors...not just up or down tests. -- Randy M. www.FastServ.com
