OK guys ... I have added 2 new msync-dvd machines ... one in the EU, one in the US. So, if you are stuck on a really slow connection and syncing the DVDs via msync-dvd, you might want to restart you sync. It should split up the load a bit and should give out a geoip relevant mirror.

bandwidth increase

Just a note that we've increased the cap on our mirror from 5Mbps to 10Mbps about 10 minutes ago. centos.westmancom.com It was pretty exciting to see the 5Mbps pegged solid since yesterday at 3pm CDT. strange thing.....

Hi, while the archives are syncing, I see some strange things: - I'm carrying the entire tree including dvd isos, but when I see the archives from the web (Apache 2.0.46) I can not see the DVD iso images greater than 2GB. I can only see the Centos 3.7 iso images (1,7GB) but not the others (centos 4 and 5 >2GB). - When accessing the archives via ftp/rsync I can see them all... I think there is something wrong with Apache...but there are not any new version for CentOS 3.8. DVD Images, again, please?

We got some more disk and four times the previous procesor cores, so we figured we'd add some stuff to our mirror, such as the DVD images since a lot of our users want them. Alas, when attempting: rsync -[stuff] msync-dvd.centos.org::CentOS-incdvd I get: msync.CentOS.org rsync service (CentOS W) --------------------------------------- [Disclaimer and stuff] @ERROR: Unknown module 'CentOS-incdvd' What is the current recommended way for public US mirrors to mirror the entire tree, DVD isos and all? I recall there having been restrictions in the past for that rsync image from the root servers, but what is the current status? (msync-dvd.centos.org. resolves to 63.135.110.10, in case this is helpful.) Also, please shorten our mirror URLs from ftp.net.usf.edu to ftp.usf.edu; the rest of the path remains as it was. (The old URL will also remain valid for the foreseeable future.) Selective RSync

Hi, To save bandwidth, I'm setting up a local repository/mirror from which our CentOS 4 farm will pull its updates. Since we are using only the x86 architecture, I'd also like to save space by not downloading and storing anything that isn't required for the x86 architecture. Does anyone have any experience or advice on how best to configure rsync to skip the parts of the mirror that aren't necessary for the x86 architecture? Thanks, Jim Zimmerman

Beta DVD access

Hi dear mirrors admin One of colleague want to test the beta of Centos 5 using DVD iso. Unfortunatelly at our university (where is located distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr, BTW: your dns work fine :), we cannot use peer to peer software, included bittorent, so we cannot get DVD iso. Would it be possible to have iso availlable through ftp or http or rsync. If need I can host them on distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr. Regards.

Actually I just found your email from several months ago. It appears as though you are rsyncing 2 times daily. I suggest rsyncing more frequently (at least 4 times daily) to keep your mirror from showing up as out of date. If the time stamp files are too old (which are updated during the rsync) then when the mirmon script runs it will show that your mirror is out of date. Resolving "no time" on status page

Hi, For mirror.nyi.net we are getting status of "no time" under the last stat column on the status page. It occasionally succeeds but is "no time" most of the time. I've been trying to troubleshoot this but I'm running out of ideas. Mirror is up to date and time stamps look okay. We have lots of available bandwidth. Any ideas what could be causing this? thanks

Mirroring Release of CentOS 5 Beta

In preparation for the public release of CentOS 5 beta, we would like to expand the number of mirror servers that have the beta as we expect it to be a popular download. So if any mirrors - especially ones with large bandwidth - can agree to the following please let us know :- 1. set up an apache virtual host as beta.centos.or 2. set up rsync for beta.cenros.org with targets we specify This will make it easy for us to use GeoIP based dns system to give out mirrors. 3. agree to sync regularily and only carry the latest beta download tree Because we dont want broken stuff too widely distributed 4. agree to remove the beta stuff when the beta test is over Thanks Lance -- uklinux.net - The ISP of choice for the discerning Linux user.
