Beta DVD access

Hi dear mirrors admin One of colleague want to test the beta of Centos 5 using DVD iso. Unfortunatelly at our university (where is located distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr, BTW: your dns work fine :), we cannot use peer to peer software, included bittorent, so we cannot get DVD iso. Would it be possible to have iso availlable through ftp or http or rsync. If need I can host them on distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr. Regards.

Actually I just found your email from several months ago. It appears as though you are rsyncing 2 times daily. I suggest rsyncing more frequently (at least 4 times daily) to keep your mirror from showing up as out of date. If the time stamp files are too old (which are updated during the rsync) then when the mirmon script runs it will show that your mirror is out of date. Resolving "no time" on status page

Hi, For mirror.nyi.net we are getting status of "no time" under the last stat column on the status page. It occasionally succeeds but is "no time" most of the time. I've been trying to troubleshoot this but I'm running out of ideas. Mirror is up to date and time stamps look okay. We have lots of available bandwidth. Any ideas what could be causing this? thanks

Mirroring Release of CentOS 5 Beta

In preparation for the public release of CentOS 5 beta, we would like to expand the number of mirror servers that have the beta as we expect it to be a popular download. So if any mirrors - especially ones with large bandwidth - can agree to the following please let us know :- 1. set up an apache virtual host as beta.centos.or 2. set up rsync for beta.cenros.org with targets we specify This will make it easy for us to use GeoIP based dns system to give out mirrors. 3. agree to sync regularily and only carry the latest beta download tree Because we dont want broken stuff too widely distributed 4. agree to remove the beta stuff when the beta test is over Thanks Lance -- uklinux.net - The ISP of choice for the discerning Linux user.

Is the DNS for the beta geographically based? geo-ip/loadbalancing causing trouble for beta.centos.org

I've done a bit of downloading of packages using the beta.centos.org hostname yesterday, and there are some issues because of geo-ip and load balancing being used. When navigating the http://beta.centos.org/ site, some mirrors have different structure than others. Navigating the tree we sometimes get redirected out of http://beta.centos.org/centos/4.92/... and into a different structure (in the mirrorservice.org case, you'll sometimes end up on http://beta.centos.org/sites/beta.centos.org/centos/4.92...) I've noticed this with mirrorservice.org, the same may be true for other mirrors as well. Now, this would be fine if it wouldn't be that the geo-ip/loadbalancing solution in place for beta.centos.org will land me on *different* servers a little now and then. Coming from the same source IP, I'm receiving different results to lookups. This makes the downloads fail with a 404 if I land on a different server when I click on the hyperlinks... One possible solution would be to have the servers do a redirect to the real server name when contacted as beta.centos.org. That way all my subsequent navigation within the site would land on the same server (cluster). The above problem report is a bit of 'informative'; since we've now synced up a local mirror here the problem is in effect gone *for*us*. It may still be causing headaches for others, though... Since we're using centos on a number of servers here, we have a local mirror (we've only got a 2 Mbit link here and are only mirroring certain releases & architectures, so setting up a public mirror just wouldn't make sense). I've set it up to rsync from beta.centos.org for the beta release. This, too, is a bit of a headache due to load balancing... Some mirrors do not support all switches recommended for rsyncing from mirrors. Particularily, the -H switch is not supported by mirrorservice.org and the rsync bails if we try to rsync with this flag. Other sites (don't remember which one, and can't reproduce it at the moment) don't support the -z flag, but doesn't bail but just ignores the -z flag. Mirrorservice.org: Would it be possible for you to support the -H switch? Thanks for your hard work, it is really appreciated. Almost all of our servers are running CentOS in some form. // J

Permissions changed on the 4.92 directory

All, The permissions are now changed on the 4.92 directory to allow public access on the master mirrors. For those of you that are live, please rsync your servers to pickup the new permissions ... or change the permissions on your 4.92 directory to 775 ... on the master server it is: drwxrwxr-x 7 centos centos 4096 Mar 11 02:29 4.92 Also .. seems some of you only have 4.92 tree ... BUT ... since you are all now part of beta.centos.org, you need the older trees too.
