Running a CentOS mirror

Hi, could anybody give me a rough idea of the amount of data transferred per day (or month) if I was to make my unofficial CentOS mirror (2.1, 3 and 4, i386 only, no ISOs) "official"? I have 500GB per month available at the moment. Thanks in advance, -- Mike Zanker

How to mirror the vault?

Hey all...I can't seem to find this anywhere. Is there a way to mirror vault.centos.org via rsync? Script to mirror i386

Hello I'm the sysadmin at the University of Carabobo, Venezuela, and I want to make an only-i386 Public Centos Mirrow. Two questions: *) The server will use 1/4 or less of an E1 link. Is it ok to use msync.centos.org::CentOS or should I sync from somewhere else in http://www.centos.org/modules/tinycontent/index.php?id=13 ? In the second case, is it ok to sync 2 times a day from one of those mirrors? *) Has anybody at hand a only-i386 rsync script to share with me? Thanks in advance. -- RedUC Universidad de Carabobo

For compatibility with links on your site I put a symlink to redirect requests to, but I have to ask if you can change the URLs on your Mirror-list page. New Mirror: Harvey Mudd College (Department of Mathematics)

I just noticed that our mirror has been listed on the CentOS mirror list. That's fine; I've updated my sync script to sync against msync.centos.org. We are mirroring CentOS 3 and 4 (and will mirror 5) for i386 and x86_64. At some point we may drop support for CentOS 3, but I can't say when that might happen (not until after CentOS 5 is released, for sure, and probably not for several months after that). Mudd has very good bandwidth, so the limits are probably on the users' side or caused by the older hardware the machine is using. We sync three times a day. Thank you to everyone who responded back in the mailing list and to those who offered advice offline. I appreciate all of you. I am using cygwin to run rsync and it works beautiully. As many have pointed out, since I am using IIS instead of apache the symlinks and hard links won't work. I expected this and am not too concerned. If this causes problems for users who may access me as a mirror I may port the web hosting portion on to a Linux box. The only reason I don't just run a CentOS server for all of this is that I cannot get funding to buy hardware specifically for this purpose. I am hosting the files on a massive DFS root which is rooted on a M$ Server 2003 box. There is no changing that, and I don't really need to anyway. My server is (and has been) up and running for a couple of days now with no problems. I will be limiting the scope of what I am mirroring to all i386 version 3.0 and up. I have "Scheduled Tasks" working perfectly. Now I just need time to get all the goods over here. Once I am confident that the mirror is working (and noone objects too harshly to publishing me with symlinks and hardlinks not working) I will post my server to the newsgroup. -- Ty R. New CentOS Mirror

Hello list, we have set up one more CentOS mirror, accessible in: http://mirrors.med.uoc.gr/centos This is located in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Crete, Heraklion, Greece (http://www.med.uoc.gr). Currently, we mirror only versions 3 and 4, for the i386 platform (soon there will be an upgrade for which we will inform you immediately). This is accessible via a Gigabit line, and currently via HTTP (FTP and perhaps rsync will be considered soon). It is kept in sync 4 times a day.
