Greetings, With regards to this subject, I'm a worthless data point because I don't do much in the CentOS project other than occasionally reply on a few mailing lists... so I'll not be volunteering for the jigdo stuff... but I do want to point out that I have used it on a number of occasions and it is very handy. You can download the DVD and then basically build the CDs from that. Saves downloading 5-7 CDs per release if you want all of the media. The Fedora Unity project seems to really like jigdo for their distribution and claims that it saves them a significant amount of bandwidth. I understand that not everyone would use it and that it is hard to get people to try new things but if it was there, I'd definitely use it... although I don't think anyone is saying to switch to it exclusively... and yes getting it working on CentOS requires some packages. A new up and comer is zsync. I've only read about it and I don't know how useful it is. Ubuntu has adopted that. question about the mirror list

Hi! I just checked our mirror in the mirror list at http://www.centos.org/modules/tinycontent/index.php?id=31 and found that it says DVD:no. A bit surprised I checked, and it seems we do carry the dvd image for the latest release(s) but not for (some of) the older ones. Is this the reason the the "no"? Best regards, Emil

5.4 updates question

How often does the mirror network update and check for mirrors that are or are not carrying updates? We have all the 5.4 tree on our mirror site but updates via yum are going to another site now.... Just wondering if we need to wait another 24 hours before doing updates for our own system? Mirror issue?

I may be crazy, But using the 5.4 i386 netinstall pointing at the /centos/5.4/os/i386 I get a error about the directory tree not maching boot media same with /centos/5/os/i386 Does this with my up to date mirror, my upstream (linux.mirrors.es.net) and mirrors.kernel.org

Hi, I currently host mirrors.combinetworks.com, however due to bandwidth transfer restrictions and my own underestimation of the amount of bandwidth that would be used it is likely this will need to cease. However before that time I have set up an alternative in a datacentre in the UK which has no transfer cap on a 100mbit/sec port. The details are as follows: Access URLs: http://uk.mirrors.combinetworks.com/centos , ftp://uk.mirrors.combinetworks.com/centos Location: Manchester, UK Bandwidth: 100mbit Synchronisation: 4 times a day, every 6 hours Sponsoring org: Combi Networks (http://www.combinetworks.com) As I said the mirror in the US will probably be taken offline at some point, however both will continue for the time being. Well, This is better targeted at the list, as I just host a private mirror, and I'm not the person to talk to. However, It does look like your mirror is already listed and up to date. Only reason I could see it being listed lower is because its considered low bandwidth (OC3 or lower). The list would have more info, Which I have CC'ed them in on this. I see that 5.4 is out but I'm not seeing any traffic going to our mirror: mirrors.gigenet.com, are there any issues with our mirror? I checked the mirror status page and all looks good however we are seeing no downloads and don't seem to be included on the downloads page. -Ross
