Need to temporarily drop CentOS 2/3

Hi Since I am running out of disk space on my mirror machine I had to drop CentOS 2 and 3. I hope I can upgrade my mirror machine in January 2008. The affected mirror is centos-mirror.financial.com. CentOS5 Repository Question

Hi, Can someone explain to me why my centos-5.0 repository has the following two rpm packages in the base repository, causing errors when running 'yum update', since it can't find the right dependencies? Here's the content of my repository for centos5. Shouldn't hal-0.5.8.1-25 and gcc-4.1.2-14 belong in the 5.1 repository? I compared it to http://mirror.centos.org/centos-5/5.0/os/i386/CentOS/ repository and it doesn't have the later versions of those two packages. So why does my 5.0 repository have the following two packages timestamped Nov. 20? [root@dragon os]# pwd /var/www/mrepo/centos5-i386/os [root@dragon os]# ls -alh | grep hal-0.5 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 371K Apr 3 2007 hal-0.5.8.1-19.el5.i386.rpm -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 375K Nov 20 11:12 hal-0.5.8.1-25.el5.i386.rpm [root@dragon os]# ls -alh | grep gcc-4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5.0M Apr 3 2007 gcc-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5.3M Nov 20 11:11 gcc-4.1.2-14.el5.i386.rpm -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 82K Apr 3 2007 libgcc-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm Again, it's causing an error when runinng yum update because it's trying to update hal, and it can't find its dependcies since they're all located in the 5.1 repository. Need to do rsync with checksum

I had an issue on one disk array serving my mirror. A lot of files get corrupted. I already fixed a big part of my mirror but I still have doubt for Centos. So currently I am looking for a *full* mirror having DVD isos nice enough to let do one time for all a rsync with checksum enable to ensure my own copy is clean. More than a big bandwidth, this mirror should have really fast disk access. It is for distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr, located in Paris, France. If you think your mirror allow this (remember I need DVD iso), thanks to give me url. Otherwise I'll trash the mirror and rsync it again, the worst solution :\ Best regards.

RFC email for late/lagging CentOS public mirrors

Hello everyone, First, let me thank you all for providing a public CentOS mirror. There are now over 170 sites registered :D I would like your feedback on the proper way to warn the public mirrors monitored at http://mirror-status.centos.org/ that something is going wrong. I was thinking of: 1st email inquiry : "what's up?" - timestamp > 3 days late or server not responding for > 3 days 2nd email inquiry : "what's wrong?" - timestamp > 7 days late or server not responding for > 7 days If no news after the 2nd inquiry, remove the server from the list after another grace delay of 7 days. Of course that the general idea, there can be lots of good reason to have a late/lagging mirror. We can just also remove the server from the mirrorlist (most visible annoyance from a lamda user perspective, imho). md5sum mismatch from some mirrors

Hi all, hope this is on-topic for the list. I'm getting md5 sum mismatch errors on a few RPM's I've retrieved from the icann.org mirror for CentOS 5.1. Specifically the following RPM's: glibc-2.5.18.el5_1.1.x86_64.rpm glibc-common-2.5-18.el5_1.1.x86_64.rpm samba-3.0.25b-1.el5_1.2.x86_64.rpm Note that the above files were copied from ICANN's rsync mirror. The glibc RPM has the following md5sum: e3614bd667f56beb93c329aec4abd3cc glibc-2.5-18.el5_1.1.x86_64.rpm It gives the following error when I try to isntall it: # rpm -Uvh glibc-2.5-18.el5_1.1.x86_64.rpm --force warning: glibc-2.5-18.el5_1.1.x86_64.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID e8562897 Preparing... ########################################### [100%] 1:glibc ########################################### [100%] error: unpacking of archive failed on file /lib64/libnss_files-2.5.so;475995a5: cpio: MD5 sum mismatch However, if I download the file from ICANN's http mirror directly: 19475c95f319da26d84e8bf9e63c9041 glibc-2.5-18.el5_1.1.x86_64.rpm It installs fine with no complaints. Both files have identical file sizes at 4891593. Is this likely a side-effect of an rsync error on my end? I did install the "bad" RPM above with --nomd5 and it began causing segmentation faults until I reverted to the "good" one. I will remove the files in question and re-rsync, but as this has happened several times before I'm wondering if it's a common thing. Thanks, Ray
