The only thing I can think of is they fell asleep on the keyboard or someone beat their head off the keyboard and it coincidentally punched in the subscribe page and their email address. That's the most probably cause I can come up with.

Thoughts on how we might be able to close / clean this up a bit more are
welcome!

1) Figure out what is going on with all the subscriptions from people that
   obviously don't want to be here.

2) Fix the problem as determined from above.

or

1) Announce mass unsubscribe to all members via mass mail.

2) Unsubscribe everyone.

3) Let those truly interested in being back here resubscribe themselves.
