Hi all, in the university where I work we are planing to have a centos public mirror, but I have a question before to prepare the server:
how much is the disk space required for a public centos mirror?
Thanks.

Our mirror without the DVD ISO files is currently taking up 126G of space. This is performing a full rsync from us-msync.centos.org.

And with ISO files?
Thanks for the fastest answer.

Last I checked, the 5.5 DVD files come to about 4.5 GB, and I expect the 4.x DVD files are roughly the same size. The total amount of storage needed can get close to double that 126GB figure on my filesystem as a new release is populated but before the previous release is purged.
Hope that helps!

I doubt that, given that the x86_64 isos alone exceed 5GB.

nb:~# du -sh /mnt/data/ftp/centos/5.5/isos/ 20G /mnt/data/ftp/centos/5.5/isos/

Oh yes, you're right. I was only considering x86_64 DVD ISOs. Sorry about that.

Thank for the answers, now I have a general idea about the disk space required. When the mirror is ready I will tell.

This question seems to come up nearly weekly. Is there some sort of FAQ that we can link to off of the page for becoming a mirror? How much space required and where do I get the DVDs? Since these are Frequently Asked Questions, I think we should start an FAQ with this information.
If not an FAQ, at least added to. New Folks may not be inclinded to dig through the mailman archives and see these topics. http://www.centos.org/modules/tinycontent/index.php?id=22
Just my thoughts.

Any takers for wiki.centos.org writer/centos-docs mailing list and friends?

Hi,
Could not find out a "Wiki" page for mirroring. So, I left a "comment" to the generic "Public Mirror HowTo" page.
Just as an idea, we could have the same "Public Mirror HowTo" in the wiki, instead of where it is now, which would make a little edits here and there much easier. But, it worked for me as it is!
