We got some more disk and four times the previous procesor cores, so we figured we'd add some stuff to our mirror, such as the DVD images since a lot of our users want them. Alas, when attempting: rsync -[stuff] msync-dvd.centos.org::CentOS-incdvd I get:
msync.CentOS.org rsync service (CentOS W) ---------------------------------------
[Disclaimer and stuff]
@ERROR: Unknown module 'CentOS-incdvd'
What is the current recommended way for public US mirrors to mirror the entire tree, DVD isos and all? I recall there having been restrictions in the past for that rsync image from the root servers, but what is the current status?
(msync-dvd.centos.org. resolves to 63.135.110.10, in case this is helpful.)
Also, please shorten our mirror URLs from ftp.net.usf.edu to ftp.usf.edu; the rest of the path remains as it was. (The old URL will also remain valid for the foreseeable future.)
I'm also happy to report that you can now add HTTP as a supported access method; the HTTP url is identical to FTP (except for the protocol part): http://ftp.usf.edu/pub/centos/ ftp://ftp.usf.edu/pub/centos/

All DVD trees are strictly controlled by allowed IP, as we can't support everybody and their brother rsyncing those :P
I have to add your IP to the allowed IPs to get those trees.
Is your IP that you will be downloading with the one that resolves from ftp.usf.edu ... if so I can add that IP to the allowed to sync from the dvd tree ...
Thanks, Johnny Hughes
Hi, I just got a new 1Tb shelf...and I want too, if possible, mirror DVD trees.
The ip is the same of the other CentOS mirror I have now on www.dcl-arch.it
Can you provide me the exact rsync "package" to mirror?
Once setup, I'll communicate you web/ftp/rsync paths.
Thank you! Regards.

From about 30 mins from now for 20 mins - my mirror will be offline (centos.candishosting.com.cn) while a new NIC comes in.
Would love to see more China users - all I have thus far is a heap of Japanese users! :-\
Cheers, RF.
I tried to reply to this off-list back when, but presumably that went into a spam filter, so I'll try again on-list :-)
Yes, our IP is 131.247.254.5 / 2001:468:1601:11fe::2.
As of right now, we can't see the image.
Also, the URL on both the mirror page (http://www.centos.org/modules/tinycontent/index.php?id=13) and the status tracker page is still the old ftp.net.usf.edu one, and missing the http method.

Interesting. Johnny, could you set us up on that ACL? IP is 208.100.4.53.
Also, can you let me exactly which module(s) (and from which hosts) I'm supposed to sync to retrieve the proper DVDs?
Thanks.

It's still not working for us, which is a pity considering the upcoming release. As is, we bittorrent the DVDs and put them on a separate tree. The problem is that general users don't see them unless they browse our server.

We're presently syncing the rest of the tree from the masters, but still don't have access to the DVDs. Is there any other source where I can get them from before the bit flip so I don't have to compete with the rest of the world when the rush starts?
Also, while we do show up on the public mirror list, the URL is still showing up as the old (ftp.net.usf.edu) instead of ftp.usf.edu, and we show only FTP as a valid method, while in fact we also do http. (http://ftp.usf.edu/pub/centos)

Hi, can you add my ip also for mirroring the DVD isos?
My server ip is: 217.220.32.45 (ftp.dcl-arch.it)
Is that the exact rsync url to mirror the DVD isos?
msync-dvd.centos.org::CentOS-incdvd
Thank you!

While waiting for the admins to confirm that they've added you to the acl's, you can pick the closest existing mirrors with DVD images to sync from: http://www.centos.org/modules/tinycontent/index.php?id=13
Look for a Yes along the column specifying Direct DVD downloads, and look at the rsync url.
Beware when switching mirror sources subsequently as there's no standard naming convention for the rsync target with/without dvds. a target specifying centos-incdvd or CentOS-incdvd should include the dvds, but a target specifying centos may or may not have dvds.

Hi, I done the initial dvd-archive sync from rsync://mirror.chpc.utah.edu/pub/centos (I hope they don't mind me!) because the few dvd mirrors listed in Europe are wrong or too slow (from Italy) to sync with.
So, can I get listed to have DVD-isos and can I get my IP (217.220.32.45) allowed to sync directly from the master server (and, can you specify what is the correct master rsync URL?) because, I think, the utah.edu can be get angry with me!:))
Until them, I'll continue to sync with them (utah.edu: if you concern about that, let me know...).
Thank you,

As well if you could update Virginia Tech CS Department on the mirrors page - we've been mirroring the DVD's for a couple of weeks now (off of centos' official server, we're already on the ACL), as well as running an rsync server serving Centos out.
