hi,
People who want to leave this list : please keep in mind that you are required to remain subscribed to the mirror-announce list in order to remain listed as a public centos mirror, and we request all admins of mirrors to be present on this list. It is, after all, a very low traffic list, and when conversations do take place they tend to be things that would interest most mirror admins.
having said that, if you still want to leave this list - send me an email offlist to the email address I'm emailing from and I'll make sure that you are removed (although, you should be able to just unsubscribe yourself using the link at the bottom of all emails, so try that first )

Some thoughts on this;
While mirror-announce may be a low-volume list it may be lower than what people want. General discussions and&or information that are not strictly related to a release can be very interesting to.
The problem with this list is the flood of "new mirror" mails, that probably are only interesting to the mirror itself and the admins.
What some other sites (linux distributions and other) have done in the past is to have a special list for the new mirror requests. That way the mirror admins can still discuss with each other (and the master mirror admins) in an easy way, without the noice. Maybe it is worth considering for centos too?
As is the case now, for our mirror the centos new mirror requests pretty much outweighs the _total_ mail amount from all other mirror lists we are subscribed to (several tenths). The amount _relevant_ (for us) information however does not.
That may be a factor to why people are leaving this list -- it is just to much noice in relation to relevant information.
Anyway, thanks for the reminder of mirror-announce!
Best regards, Emil
I've added a rule to outlook to move e-mails from this mailing list to a special folder and I only search for the important e-mails. There are almost none. Perhaps it's an idea to create a second list with notifications only.

I think that the main problem is simply the new mirror requests are being sent to way too many people. Why do we even need a mailing list at all? Why not just create a special e-mail address, and that can be an internal alias to distribute to the 1-3 people in the CentOS system that need to see it. I know I don't consider it remotely relevent, and I always found it annoying that mirror add/moves/deletes were sent on this list. I just delete most traffic from this list directly.

Let me say something.
In my opinion,CentOS should change this list. In fedora, mirror announcement is a single one,and in extra there is a list named mirror discussion.
Well,i think we can make 2 lists for different crowd.
For the facet of register a new mirror,I think we can design a special contact form with captcha,in the form people submit their new mirrors detail.

This is exactly what we have. This list and the mirror-announce list.
Ralph
Minor detail: every announcement is sent to this list.

Everyone involved with Centos,
I don't have a problem in what you all got setup (pretty cool actually), however, I removed myself from the emailing list a while ago and still receive emails. Where is the accountability for this? I've asked to be removed (because I can no longer login to the website!!) but receive a disheartening email from a fellow employee with you all (you know who you are) and now my emails consist of you all explaining an ongoing problem...LOL! Meanwhile my mailbox is tainted with others asking to be removed. What needs to happen to get me removed? I'll invite you all to E3 with me. I'll dress as Lei in the Jaba slut uniform. Hell, I may just tell you all the ending to batman darknight rises (yeah I'll be that guy tonight!).
Please just remove me from this mailing list before Gmail account commits suicide.

Gmail makes it super easy. Click the dropdown arrow next to the from and click either "Unsubscribe from this list" or "filter messages from this list". Otherwise, try sending an email with the subject unsubscribe to the list email address.

Good idea, other projects use their bugzillas for the mirrors as well (Debian, ROSA etc).
