Hi Fabian,
It only took a few additional DNS records to achieve this, which took me no more than 5 minutes to do. It is essentially a private mirror network that is centrally managed.
I guess to answer your question, the only reason that I am also doing it is because it was not much effort for me to do. If there are any concerns, do let me know.

Well, trying to understand this : it seems you wanted to have a "nested" mirrorlist ? As mirrorlist.centos.org already do the GeoIP lookup, and so gives you back a list of servers in your country (or nearby countries if less than 10), why are you doing that on your side ?
