Hi All, How does our Site get Included in the Fastestmirror plugin search of Centos Yum.? We are not seeing any traffic to our site http://mirros.gitam.edu/fedora
Regards Durga Prasad
Perhaps you're looking at the wrong list / repository? This is the CentOS mailing list, and your link is about Fedora. :)

Why /fedora? This is Centos. Plus, mirros.gitam.edu doesn't resolve (which could explain the absence of traffic). You might want to fix the above.

I think that was a spelling error. "mirrors.gitam.edu" (3rd 'r' missing on original post) does resolve to 117.211.123.49

There was a similar discussion a few months ago, and I think the final answer is, the current script that returns the list is not perfect. The logic has room for improvement.
That being said, you can try to run the same link (given earlier) again from another host, and see if the results are the same. Once a host makes a query, the results are cached for a certain time, so running the same request from the same host in quick succession will give you the same results. I am not sure what the default length of the duration is.
In our data center, most of the time, we are returned as the top search result. But, there are times when we see other mirrors listed above us, and sometimes even ones located in Hong Kong, Singapore or even Japan!
There is a current effort towards improving this feature, along with some other aspects of CentOS Mirror Infrastructure. A IRC meeting was held on Oct/25. Link to the transcripts are available in the relevant thread.

The three people that I can remember maintaining the CentOS pages and core servers are Ralph, Tru and Karanbir. There are probably others as well, but can't remember from the top of my head right now.
It is Sunday, so I think you need to be a bit patient. Weekends are usually slow from some. Sometimes, it can take upto a week before you need to resend the request.

Did not notice this, but we (ftp.iitm.ac.in) are listed as a Tier 2 mirror, but our bandwidth has been updated to approximately 250 mbps, so we should be in Tier 1. No other change. Could this be updated, please. Thanks.

Hello Mr. Durga Prasad
You have already known the issue by Mr. Hassan.
Here is some link, you my find useful:
http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-mirror/2010-October/004038.html
Actually it is from the list archive of October, 2010, see the URL:
http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-mirror/2010-October/
It will give you pain, but reading is the best solution or learning and implementation.
In October, 2010, we decided to change the mirror selecting method and now we, the CentOS Master Mirror Maintainer along with other personal is looking for an way to improve the system that how the mirror is chosen, either by yum, or any browser.
The target is to give people access to the mirrors which is low cost for user / ISP, speedy to user.
Keep an eye on CentOS mailing list for farther discussion on it. Also you can see the CentOS wiki for more information and the transcript of meeting on 28th December on it.
http://wiki.centos.org/FAQ/CentOS5
As I said before on my mail earlier to you that I am reserving lot of request from India but my Host Machines are in Bangladesh. Even I try to yup update something from the box hosting the mirror of CentOS, it will pickup an .au mirror.
Mean the current system is buggy and we are trying hard to find out an way to fix it.
By the way, can you see traffic on your mirror?

It will give you pain, but reading is the best solution or learning and implementation.
In October, 2010, we decided to change the mirror selecting method and now we, the CentOS Master Mirror Maintainer along with other personal is looking for an way to improve the system that how the mirror is chosen, either by yum, or any browser.
The target is to give people access to the mirrors which is low cost for user / ISP, speedy to user.
Keep an eye on CentOS mailing list for farther discussion on it. Also you can see the CentOS wiki for more information and the transcript of meeting on 28th December on it.

Im wondering how long it would take to get yum requests though.
Because CentOS is a voluntary/best effort and we have our own life/duties/priorities to care for.

Not sure why. You are in all the iso mirrorlists, but not (yet?) in the normal mirror-lists.
I have changed your entry, let's wait for another day and see again.
