So I changed the target to multiuser, installed tigervnc-server, did
what I needed to get the service running for my user and vnced in.
PAINFULL. Not in memory, but in cpu. I managed to get a terminal
window open on the desktop, and any time I would type in a command I had
to wait for a while before it showed in the termnal window and
executed. I ran top on the serial console, and I was seeing gnome spike
about 150% cpu utilization.
THUS IMHO:
Gnome desktop is not practical on an Allwinner A20 cpu. It is not a
memory issue, but cpu. I think it is also the video rendering.
Perhaps someone wants to try out KDE. I do not.
I again vote for Xfce as an available desktop. It works on arm.
Perhaps the upcoming Cubietruck Plus with the new Allwinner quad chip
will work. But I want something that works on the A20.
