Additionally, I've tested the following applications:

* phpMyAdmin 3.3.9 (require php-5.2+)   => PASS
* Joomla! 1.6.0 (require php >= 5.2.4 ) => PASS


I've noticed that the following packages are not available in php53 
stack (also not in the upstream):

php-mcrypt
php-mhash

so it maybe an issue for application requiring those extensions.
