I like the softer tones and it toke a while to see the difference
between 1.7-26 & 1.7-27.
My vote goes to 1.7-26, I don't fancy lines in the margins in 1.7-27, it
is although discrete.

You can make your application with less instead for limiting the with
for 4:3 format. I do it all the time when i write documents in write, I
seldom have it in fullscreen mode.
