Interesting. Checking a little deeper, 98% of the requests were from 72.21.40.10. (lists.centos.org). Also lots of hits for various */repodata/repomd.xml from the same IP. Must be for generating http://mirror-status.centos.org/ (which is fine now that I know what it is.
