Ubuntu uses deb just like Red Hat based use rpm.
go to my "custom" repository
and download dpkg rpm and any other that dpkg depends on. Its i386
repository for CentOS 5.2 and 5.3 containing repackaged rpms from Fedora
and some programs I constantly use so it is easier to install them
with yum then to download each time.
