I have installed the xen-4.6.6 and kernel-4.9.39-29 from testing on a
thinkpad t520 with 16GB ram as a test server.

I was able to follow the steps here to create 2 HVM vms (one centos-6,
one centos-7):

So it also 'works for me' with intel 64bit CPU.
