[CentOS] Best way to add/update an installation

Many thanks to all! 

Is "man yum" the best way to "learn" about the suggestions?  Or is there 
another source?

Since I have the rpm's on CD's, is there a way to set up a list as 
suggested, but use the local rpm's?
