[CentOS] BJC-2100 printer not printing correctly

First, thanks for the great work done on Centos 4.1. Recently installed
on two systems that previously were running Windows 98 and Windows ME.
(The user of the Windows ME system has no problems so far.)

I was very surprised when Centos 4.1 recognized and automatically
configured the BJC-2100 printer connected to the USB port during
install.

The only problem encountered so far is poor printing results to the
BJC-2100. When I print the test page it takes an exceptionally long
time to print, looks like multiple passes with very little paper
movement. And the print results are not good, the print out appears
washed out almost gray. Trying to print text only test page the result
is difficult to see on the page it is so light.

I have tried various adjustments in the print driver and a few
suggestions I found via google (use BJC-600 driver, BJC-4500 driver,
etc.) Nothing I have found so far appears to make much difference in
the print results.

I suspect part of the problem is that this printer is not postscript or
PCL (?).

A queue setup pointing to an HPG85 printer connected to another system
prints just fine. But this is served via another system on the LAN not
directly connected. I also believe this is a postscript type printer.

Has anyone else used a BJC-2100 on any linux distribution? Any
suggestions on what else to try to get this to print as it should?
