Each time you open mailbox, wu-imapd needs to read it from beggining to the end from the disk, and alocate possibly large chunks of memory as long as you keep connection open. Cyrus will simply consult its internal database. Huge difference in speed and load on machine. So, the slower/older your hardware is, the more inclined you should be to run cyrus.
