[Centos] Kernel Question

Short answer: probably yes, but not in the way RH/CentOS intended.

Long answer: you are better off obtaining the source RPM for the running 
kernel at hand, add your patch to the already insanely long list of Red 
Hat patches applied to the kernel, change the release tag (to make it 
unique to you), and 'rpmbuild -ba' a whole new set of kernel binaries.
