Here's what my .bash_profile looks like for oracle.  Notice $ORACLE_HOME/bin 
in the path.  Mine has some additional info for RAC, but you can easily 
remove that.

# Get the aliases and functions
if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then
        . ~/.bashrc
fi

# User specific environment and startup programs


unset USERNAME
ORACLE_BASE=/app/oracle
ORACLE_SID=skyd1
ORACLE_HOME=/app/oracle/10.1.0/db
ORA_CRS_HOME=/app/oracle/10.1.0/crs
PATH=$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$HOME/bin
export ORACLE_BASE ORACLE_SID ORACLE_HOME ORA_CRS_HOME PATH
