I tend to use RCS. I do intend to sort out a more integrated,
multi-system setup using either CVS or Subversion in conjunction with
rdist from a central configuration management server at some stage in
the future but for now RCS does what I need.

Have a look at the attached dump from our wiki, might be of use to you.
