greetings

on a simple CentOS 4 DNS server install i have the below info.

crontab -l "shows nothing"

pico /etc/crontab   shows...

SHELL=/bin/bash
PATH=/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin
MAILTO=root
HOME=/
# run-parts
01 * * * * root run-parts /etc/cron.hourly
02 4 * * * root run-parts /etc/cron.daily
22 4 * * 0 root run-parts /etc/cron.weekly
42 4 1 * * root run-parts /etc/cron.monthly

i have searched and looked and fiddled yet... ummm dunno...

...and i have nothing in /etc/cron.hourly or /etc/cron.d among other places
yet ever hour my logfile gets touched so to speak with this stuff and i have
virtually every daemon shutoff so i am trying to figure out what it is that
is doing this and would sincerely appreciate any help.

what did i space or forget please?
