When building your own custom rpms it is best to do
them 
"properly". 6 months down the road you may have made
forgotten
what you did.

For example the SRPM for Fedora for samba from
samba.org :-
 
$ rpm -q --changelog samba
the changes are in cvs

Pretty useful that is when you are trying to  discover
the 
patches/bugs that were fixed? You get the drift.

Or for example reading about the sendmail exploit and
wanting 
to see if you are covered :-

$ rpm -q --changelog sendmail | grep CVE
zilch
