Right click on the tray at the top of the screen. You should see "help"
and maybe "About Gnome" as some of the items in the drop-down menu. If
you're not using Gnome ... something else?

I suggest a click on the "help" menu. That might get you going on the
desktop stuff, you can pick up command line stuff later if you desire.
