If you force one end, you must force the other end too. If you do not force both ends, the one configured to auto negotiate will detect the speed properly, however it will always use half duplex. Either set both sides to auto negotiate and don't worry about it. Or in an extremely unlikely case it doesn't work (very old or buggy equipment, or something very specialized) force it on both ends and put some labels on the port so other folks will know the port on the switch is forced.
