So I suspect the second DSN came out a context where you still had the misconfiguration with localhost.localdomain as hostname and not already relaying through your ISP. "(reason: 521-EHLO/HELO from sender 71.31.91.127 does not map to localhost.localdomain in DNS)" sounds obvious for me. All should be fine now.
