You could edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and change the it so that the
video card driver is vesa:
Driver "vesa"
(that should give you up to 1024x768)
You could also download the driver for that card from ati:
http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/linux/linux-radeon.html
