Oh - the start/stop/restart commands really just rename
/var/lib/nxserver/home/.ssh/authorized_keys2 back and
forth to
/var/lib/nxserver/home/.ssh/authorized_keys2.disabled
so your strace caught it when it really didn't exist.
The next step should have been to rename it back.
