That would not be a Deskjet 1020 printer, would it ?
I have this exact problem on a machine with that.
Tried disabling cups-config-daemon, hal and a few others, to no avail.
Finally, I found a way to workaround the problem:
# chattr +u /etc/cups/mime.types
[]s
